- overview
- Born in Tsu City, Mie, Japan. Having moved to Spain in the 1970s and afterwards spent time in Switzerland, Ikemura started her artistic career in the early 1980s in Germany. By incorporating multiple media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and poetry, she depicts various aspects of the creation and change of all things that exist in this world and the infinite possibility hidden in those processes. Facing one of the essential themes in fine arts, her artistic practice has earned both domestic and international acclaim. Ikemura taught at the Berlin University of the Arts as a Professor from 1991 to 2015. She has also served as a Visiting Professor at the Joshibi University of Art and Design, Kanagawa, Japan since 2014. The artist was selected for the Art Encouragement Prize of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan in 2020.
