overview
Born in Hong Kong in 1978. Currently based in Taipei, Lee has taken part in residency programs all over the world, including the US, Europe and Asia. In his art practice, Lee utilizes various media such as projector light, videos, sounds, words and found objects, and his artworks represent the artist’s desire to continuously blaze a trail for new expressions of painting. Having been born and raised in Hong Kong, a city that has been susceptible to political turbulence, Lee has been conscious of the current socio-political climate. He incorporates intricate expressions to provide an opportunity for the viewers to reconsider their relationships with society and others, and the nature of his artwork is what makes his exhibition spaces site-specific, reflecting the ambience and emotions of each location.

The second “Portfolio” series

2023.11.16 Thu

The second "Portfolio," an editioned work by Lee Kit, is now complete.

The 12 images printed on watercolor paper are selected from images Kit has taken on a daily basis over the past decade. In addition, the texts from his journal are included as well as the images. Compared to the previous edition, this work focuses more on color and texture, and the imagery is more abstract. These works, which are visual entities apart from any specific meaning or context, will be presented for the first time in his solo exhibition A blank stare like a gasp. The installation consists of works including, but not limited to, spray paint on metal plates, shiny walls created by transparent tape, a surface layer of destroyed metal, and projections used as light.

Portfolio the first editioned artwork created by Lee Kit

2020.12.25 Fri

ShugoArts is pleased to announce the completion of Portfolio, the first editioned artwork created by Lee Kit.

This group of new artworks—which plays an important role in his solo exhibition (Screenshot) currently on view at ShugoArts—is from a photo documentary that he has been posting on Facebook for the past six years. As Kit calls it a photo-documentary or photo-album, Portfolio is a record of his daily life while showing that Kit’s artistic practice is always moving forward. In this work ten images are inkjet printed on Arches watercolor paper. As befits Kit, who aims to expand “painting” by replicating images and projecting light, this group of works is printed as if it were painted on watercolor paper and can be considered as “works on paper.”

The ten prints are packaged in a folder-like box with a text written by the artist.
